29/365 – Getting Rid of Defaults

Our life is made of routines and defaults. We wake up and basically take the same actions, repeat the same patterns and go in the same directions. Breaking those routines helps. Creating the conditions to get rid of our defaults is essential.
More than our routines, which might be the result of well-thought decisions and years-long reflections, our defaults action kill our creativity. It is when we react the same way to the same stimulus and when we give the same answer to the recurrent questions.

It is important to learn to recognize these moments and these patterns and practice to get rid of our defaults. Observe when it is about to happen or it has just happened and change direction, look the other way and embrace the change. It isn’t so much about getting rid of it, but being able to see them coming and decide consciously that we are going to go another way.

In other words, take decisions by design, not default.
