18/365 – Close Your Eyes

I put so much effort into what I do that sometimes I forget to let it go.
This often happens when I start drawing: it is so important to me that the final result is clean, close to perfection, showing care but also quality. And I tend to forget the power of improvisation, of complete freedom of hand and mind, the alternative the only way for me possible.

This reminds me that sometimes it is important to let it go and one way to do it is to just close your eyes. Let your mind go, let the pen go randomly, make sure what you are doing is more on the side of meditation than on the side of the practice. Let go your preconceptions, your expectations, your image of the final result. Focus on the moment and the flow, feel the action and live it instead of planning it.

The final piece is usually funky and weird enough to bring you new insights and unexpected results that you can join with your eyes fully open.
